WVBA 2023 Bee School

WILLAMETTE VALLEY BEEKEEPERS ASSOCIATION2023 Bee SchoolWhat: The WVBA is offering an introduction to beekeeping course in February 2023. We will cover equipment needed, where to obtain bees, how to “work” bees, pests and diseases, and much more. When: Monday evenings February 6, 13, 20, and 27 from 7:00 - 9:00 pm. Plus in April we host a “bee day” where we actually inspect colonies of bees. Place and time TBD. Where: Salem Evangelical Church, 455 Locust St, NE, Salem. Room number will be posted in the church. Why: Beekeeping is not as simple as it was 50 years ago so it’s helpful to have classes to get you started in the right direction. You will meet fellow beekeepers in your area, possibly even your neighborhood, who can support you along the path to becoming a successful keeper of bees. Cost: $55 covers the cost of the textbook, materials, and membership dues to the WVBA for one year. Youth under the age of 18 may attend at no cost. If you already have the textbook, “The Beekeeper’s Handbook”, and do not want/need an additional copy, class cost reduced by $25. WVBA Membership: Being a member gives one the right to be on the swarm call list (free bees), borrow books from the extensive club library, and to borrow the club’s 6-frame honey extractor. Details: Come to the January meeting of the WVBA on January 23, 2023 at the Salem Evangelical Church, 7:00 pm. You will have a chance to sign up and pay for the class, receive your class packet which includes the book “The Beekeeper’s Handbook”, and hear the informative speakers of the evening.
